Lattice field theory with worldlines and worldsheets

For several lattice field theories it is possible to find an exact mapping to an alternative form, where worldlines and worldsheets are used as the new degrees of freedom. The new representation allows to address issues such as sign problems from a chemical potential or topological terms, as well as the exact implementation of symmetries related to topological terms. I give a general introduction to the approach and discuss several examples for the use of worldlines and worldsheets.
