The determination of Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) from experimental data and lattice QCD simulations is a classic example of an inverse problem, whose solution depends on a set of assumptions about the underlying space of possible solutions. We discuss a Bayesian formulation of the problem and the insight that can be gained on the statistical and systematic errors that are quoted on the determination of the PDFs.
