Description

Abstract: This year marks the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the charm quark at the Brookhaven National Laboratory and at SLAC - the Stanford Linear Accelerator. This arguably provided the Standard Model of particle physics with an experimental basis. During these five decades, the heavy beauty and charm quarks have been a fantastic laboratory to test Standard Model predictions. In particular the matter antimatter - asymmetry has been investigated, which requires a violation of the charge-parity (CP) symmetry between particles and antiparticles. Major recent results on CP violation in beauty and charm quark, which were measured mainly at the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, will be presented. Heavy flavour has also led to surprises, such as a new dawn of spectroscopy. Despite huge progress, we know that the Standard Model is incomplete and cannot accommodate the observed level of the baryon asymmetry or dark matter. With a new upgraded LHCb detector and the Belle II experiment at SuperKEKB in operation a new level of precision measurement should be in reach. What will we learn from Flavour Physics in the future?
